Oh Say Can You See? Mt. Rushmore

Mt. Rushmore.  It is one of those places that all Americans should visit. It is a place that I have wanted to see and I was in awe.  The determination of those who worked to complete a monument such as this is hard to comprehend.  As you scroll through the photos below, note the wages of the workers---of course their pay is relative but still, those who carved hung on the side of a mountain, in a swing, with drills, stood by while 90% of the carving was created by dynamite blasts—unbelievable!  The evening lighting and ceremony that accompanies it was a patriotic experience. If you can make time to go – do it!  It begins with patriotic music, then a ranger talk followed by a film then the lighting.

You will see in the photos the plaster cast of what the sculptor planned – the rock formations did not totally comply with the plan in that they were not able to include the hands and shoulders of Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln as they had desired.  Still it is awesome!

There is a Presidential Path below the monument...little crevice with view of George
