We have passed by this museum once before and since I love
airplanes, we had to stop and see it.
Old military planes are now houses in what once was an active hangar
from 1942-48 housing as many as six blimps.
There were 2 hangars here but one burned to the ground. The blimps were used to spot enemy subs off
the coast here during the war. The US
built a series of blimp hangars on both coasts at the start of WWII. The hangar at Moffett Field, that I used to
see from my window while working at Lockheed was one that also housed
blimps—didn’t know that until we went here.
The Sunnyvale CA hangar is being torn down now.
Looks like we'd enjoy that museum too!
